Jürgen Norbert Klopp (born 16 June 1967 in Stuttgart) is a retired German footballer and current manager of Borussia Dortmund in the Bundesliga.
Klopp played 340 games for Mainz 05 from 1990 to 2001. He originally played as a striker, before starting to play as a defender in the 1995–96 season.[1]

He was the manager of Mainz 05 for 7 years. During this period he led the team to its first appearance in the Fußball-Bundesliga. During his management the club also qualified for the 2005–06 UEFA Cup. During the qualification, he beat Armenian side Mika and Icelandic side Keflavík, but in the main tournament Mainz 05 lost to Sevilla, the team that later won the tournament.
In 2007, Mainz 05 were relegated, but he remained manager for another season. However, due to the fact that Mainz 05 did not achieve promotion, he left the job after the 2007–08 season at his own request.
In May 2008, he was appointed as the new manager of Borussia Dortmund, signing a two-year contract at the club, which had finished in a disappointing 13th place under previous manager Thomas Doll. Soon Klopp managed to gain his first trophy DFB-Supercup (defeating champions Bayern Munich 2–1).[2]
In the first season, Borussia finished 6th in the Bundesliga and failed to qualify for the UEFA Europa League. But in his second season, the team were getting better and finished in fifth position. Borussia clinched the Bundesliga 2010–11 title after beating Nuremberg 2–0. This was their first league title since the 2001–02 season.[3]
Starting 2005, Klopp appeared as a regular pundit on the German television network ZDF weighing in on games of the Germany national football team. His term ended after UEFA Euro 2008. He was succeeded by Oliver Kahn. During the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, he worked with RTL with Günther Jauch. On 20 October 2006, he received the Deutscher Fernsehpreis in the best sport show category.
Klopp is currently married for the second time. He has one son, who plays for Borussia's second team. Since 2009, Klopp has lived in Herdecke, where many Borussia Dortmund players also live.[4]
